Paul's Pacific Grove webcam

I am finally one of the cam'ed up masses!

This X10.com cam is pointing out of my office window, hence the reflections of the fluoro lights at night. The office I used to work at in Pacific Grove on Central Ave, at the edge of Monterey and has a beautiful view across the bay (which you can't really see at the camera's elevation) toward the mountains. The best time to catch the view of the sunrise is around ~6am PST.

The camera has a pan & tilt feature too but I haven't figured out how to get that controllable on the Web yet. Heck, I haven't even figured out how to get the camera capture software to run on a non-Windows machine :-).

It's a pity the image quality sucks so badly. Despite having tweaked the contrast & brightness settings, on an OK day it looks like a 19th century London "pea-souper". Hmm, $50 camera, maybe that's it...

This camera is now offline since I don't work there any longer. The remotely controlled pan & tilt system is a good one, it just needs a decent camera before I'm motivated to reconnect it.

For a less sucking picture, check out a panorama taken outside my office with a real camera, or some pics from my wrist camera.

Last bunch of images

The XRay Vision software is set to log a new pic every 30s and upload the last four with some HTML. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the application's "Don't crash every couple of days" option so it tended to stop uploading every so often. It's offline now anyway.

The latest pic on its own is here.
